This is the oldest and most established pizzeria in the city. Its interior is very atmospheric, thanks to the origin of this location: it used to be an old butcher’s shop. The walls are decorated with antique wall tiles and in summer you can sit on cozy the terrace outside (without a lot of disturbing traffic). As it is a chique neighbourhood, you would expect high prices but it’s not like that at all. Prices are very reasonable and all dishes are authentic Italian. You will find many local residents and not too many tourists. A true recommendation during your stay! Address: Johannes Verhulststraat 32.
Yerba
Yerba is an inspiring, plant based restaurant and opened its doors in 2018. As they don’t want to waste food, they use whole vegetables and they care about working with local producers and farmers. Vegetables are definitely in the spotlight at Yerba, but if you do want to add meat or fish to your meal, no problem at all! But even if you are a real carnivore, I promise that you will not miss the meat since every vegetable dish is a delight! Address: Ruysdaelstraat 48.
Café Loetje
More than thirty years ago, Loetje was just a bar in the neighborhood where locals went to have a small bite and to play a game of billiards. Then they introduced the steak…it was an instant success! The café is now known for serving the best steak in town. The desserts are also great! One tip: order the ‘Biefstuk Bali‘, I guarantee you will not regret it. (A couple from Israel that visited me told me they just had to go to this restaurant twice in one week because they just thought the steak was so amazing!) Address: Johannes Vermeerstraat 52.
L’Entrecôte et les dames
This is my favourite restaurant in this neighbourhood. Its formula exists of tender entrecôte (with a delicious sauce), salad en French fries and is served in two rounds. If you prefer to eat fish, you will be served small sole fish instead of the steak. This atmospheric restaurant is also open for lunch. As it is located next to the Museumplein it is an ideal option after having visited one of the museums or just before going to a concert in the concert hall. Address: Van Baerlestraat 49.
