Dutch snacks
I guess typical Dutch snacks can not be called healthy. But it is really worth it to try some of them: Drop: liquorice, a candy flavoured with the extract of the roots of the liquorice plant. We just love that stuff. Kroket: a croquette filled with meat. The best one is found at Patisserie Holtkamp, but traditionally we get them out of the machine at FEBO (named after the FErdinand BOlstraat, where the first FEBO was located and still is). New wine bar: Rayleigh & Ramsay
Although Rayleigh & Ramsay doesn’t call itself a wine bar, at this new hotspot you can taste more than 100 different wines from all over the world. They even have wines from countries like Armenia, India and The Netherlands. By adding money to a card that you will receive, you can poor the wines yourself. You can choose between half a glass, a whole glass or even a sip. If you don’t spend the complete amount that you’ve added to the card, you can get back the amount left in cash. They have a lunch and dinner menu as well and delicious bites like oysters and cheeses. Address: Zocherstraat 2.
Food Soul Festival
From January 29th till January 31th an indoor food truck festival is held in Amsterdam-Noord. You can enjoy a great variety of food that is prepared in the trucks while listening to soul music. You will also find a wine bar and a bar with traditionally brewed beer. The entrance is free. More information: foodsoulfestival.nl
Spanish Masters at Hermitage
From November 28th 2015 to May 29th 2016, Hermitage Museum is home to the art exhibition ‘Spanish Masters from the Hermitage‘. In this exhibition you will find more than 60 masterpieces from painters like El Greco, Velázquez, Murillo, Zurbarán and Picasso, that together tell the story of the rise and glory of Spanish art in the Golden Age. Amsterdam Light Festival
Every year in winter time, Amsterdam is transformed into a capital of lights, thanks to many international artists. They are able to show their latest work in the streets and canals. IDFA time!
On November 18th, the IDFA festival starts in Amsterdam. For me, one of my favourite events in Amsterdam. Our city transforms itself to the international documentary capital of the world. King’s day
King’s Day is a national holiday, celebrated yearly on April 27th. This day we celebrate the birth of our king Willem-Alexander. You will find markets, music and food on the streets all over our country. Also, people tend to dress up in orange clothes.
